This is described as an explosive, action packed teen thriller and I would certainly say it does fit this description. It is a story set in South Africa and based at a family ranch where Ralph and Robyn help with the animals and aid the conservation effort. However, we are immediately drawn into there being something that is very unusual and fearsome that is roaming the lands. Ralph and Robyn are first drawn into this is the mystery, as they witness a lion running and fear and question that - other than man what predator terrorises and hunts lions?
There is a lot of detail that perhaps teens/young adults would enjoy but for me perhaps too gruesome but then adventure stories do seem to like the disaster and high stakes. It was an interesting read and I haven’t read Wilbur Smith in collaboration with anyone else.
It is definitely a read to make you feel part of the hunt and chase!
