As readers will expect from a book co-written by Wilbur Smith, along with Keith Chapman and Steve Cole, Prey Zone is a great adventure story for young adults. The recommended age group is 10 to 14 years however there is a lot of violence and death so I feel parents/carers should exercise caution for readers in the lower part of the range as it could be very upsetting for sensitive children. The action revolves around Robyn and Ralph Ballantyne who live at Crocodile Lodge, a game reserve dedicated to conservation, with their widowed father. The game reserve adjoining Crocodile Lodge is owned by Josef Gerhard who wants to reintroduce game hunting which the Ballantyne family are strongly opposed to. An extremely dangerous predator appears to be loose in the reserve so Robyn and Ralph are determined to find out what is happening as the creature seems to be linked to the Gerhard's reserve. I hadn't initially realised that Prey Zone if the first book in a series so I found the ending rather unsatisfactory and inconclusive. Not one to buy as a one-off.
