The first line draws you in. Nothing like the mention of death as a statement to intrigue you. But as the story continues you can’t help but feel compassion for selestra, a young witch who craves power to replace the empty space in her heart that should have been filled with love and validation from her mother, that she is enough. The nuance in the writing is evident, she constantly tells herself that she is good that things will be better once she replaces her mother when in actuality she’s completely alone. She’s naive in a sheltered way but has seen and heard horrors you wish you could shield her away from. An enticing and exciting read that you can’t put down!
