This is a dark, magical fantasy story involving witches, battles and prophesies or fortune telling. The book cover has a really beautiful and dreamy appearance which is very captivating. The main characters are Selestra and Nox, and right from the beginning there is a connecting tension that the reader feels between them. As the story unfolds their lives are certainly bound together - whilst to begin with they each have their own motivations for each other but as they are forced to work together and trust each other this evolves.
I haven’t read any of Alexandra Christo before and so I hadn’t read her debut novel To kill a Kingdom, I don’t think you need to read this before the princess of souls but having read this book and enjoyed the writing I might go back to her debut. Although there are more to enjoy as she has a fantasy duology out too.
