I always think that reading books that are stories about Fantasy and Magic are a good way to escape the problems of the present day. This is because many of the stories take place in worlds that are so different from our own.
When I first saw the cover of this book, it gave me a shiver down my spine because there is a picture of a snake on it, and snakes give me the creeps. The background of the cover is a vivid green colour. As I read the story, I realised that the green background and the big, long snake were relevant to the characters in the book.
One of the main characters is a teenage girl named Selestra who has green hair and snake eyes. She is also a witch who has to work for her father who is the king. She can see when people are going to die, and when they do their souls have to be eaten by the evil king so that he can remain as an immortal.
Another main character is a young soldier called Nox who is out to get vengeance on the king for his own father`s unnecessary death. When Selestra comes into contact with Nox, she sees her own future alongside his and it is not looking good.
