I really enjoyed this book, it felt like a classic and yes modern young adult fantasy. I appreciated the themes of friendship, family and female power. While this is a love story it isn’t simply for the sake of it. Selestra and Nox’s relationship is a reflection of their personal growth and stories throughout the novel. The two people they are at the beginning could not have fallen in love but they grew together and became better people along the way.
I thought that perhaps the world building and magic system could have been a little more explained. I know that this isnt adult fantasy and so things are always going to be a little more simple but I thought the magic was amazing and would have loved to hear more about it. For example perhaps how they planned to return the magic to the six isles.
Overall I thought this was an excellent young adult fantasy that I would recommend to those who enjoy the genre!
