Disclaimer; I won a copy of this book from Readers First in exchange for an honest review.
I have not read the first book in the Hundred Kingdoms series (To Kill a Kingdom) and was initially concerned that I might be missing some important narrative. However, this novel speaks entirely for itself. It was really useful having a map of the Kingdoms in the front of the book though.
I was absolutely captivated by this story. There was adventure and surprise on nearly every page. The twists and turns of the story had me wanting to read more. I really enjoyed how the chapters switched between the voices of the two main characters of Selestra and Nox. As a reader I felt like I really got to know these characters. The changes within their relationship from enemies to friends were conveyed in a way that is suitable for all ages of reader. The imagination and inventiveness of the author in developing the story and the people within it is spellbinding. I look forward to reading more of the authors work
