I can tell someone when they’re going to die. All I need is a lock of hair and their soul.
Just in case.’

Years ago I fell in love with the world that ’To Kill A Kingdom’ was set within, instantly knowing that I needed to one day explore more of its gloriously alluring kingdoms. So, when I learnt that ’Princess of Souls’ was set within that same world I knew that I had to get my hands on a copy of it. Although, even if that hadn’t been the case, the premise with its promise of powerful magic, an immortal king, harvesting souls and the obvious potential for enemies to lovers (one of my weaknesses) would have sold me on this book regardless.

From the very first line of this book I was hooked, instantly aware that this was definitely going to be my kind of read. It has the sort of opening that instantly reels you in and from that point on the action and intrigue never really stops. This novel switches between the points of view of Selestra and Nox, giving you a glimpse into the minds of both the heir to a powerful, and horrifying, magical destiny and a revenge driven soldier. Both of these viewpoints were superb to follow in and I adored the character development of both, especially Selestra who truly came into her own over the course of the novel.

Besides the central two characters there were many more intriguing individuals to meet in this novel, everyone being developed enough to feel real. There were characters I’d have loved to see more of and back stories that I’d adore to have explored further in the form of prequel novels – something that always seems to happen when I stumble across a particularly interesting individual in a fantasy realm.

The writing was a wonderful balance of lyrical and swift moving – something that led to a lot of beautiful potential quotes or sentiments whilst keeping the pace constantly on the move. Together these two factors, along with the plotline, characters, banter and world, make this novel impossible to put down. And finally that world? Oh how I adored it! This novel explores an entirely new corner of Alexandra Christo’s debut world but it was every bit as interesting. The history and background of its six isles has left me itching for more. Honestly I can’t quite believe how much I love learning about her realms.

Altogether I certainly recommend picking ’Princess Of Souls’ up, especially if you’re a fan of dark magic, fairytale style fantasies and the enemies to lovers troop. From what I remember of ’To Kill A Kingdom’ you can pick this novel up without knowledge of it although I do strongly advise checking out both. Needless to say I’m infinitely curious to discover what this author will write next.
