Princess of Souls is a loose retelling of the fairy tale Rapunzel, with a few references to the original tale. While set in the same world as "To Kill a Kingdom", it stands alone so you can pick up the series from this book.

I felt like this story was very slow to start, and only became more invested in the story just before the halfway point. After that, I couldn't read it fast enough with the second half of the story making up for the first. The story switches point of views throughout, and I really enjoyed Selestra and Nox's character development as well as how their relationship developed, although I am slightly biased as I do enjoy the enemies to friends/lovers trope. However, I do feel like the supporting characters could have been developed a bit more. I enjoyed the twists that happened throughout the story, as well as the worldbuilding, which leaves room for more stories to be based in this world.

All in all, it was a great YA fantasy.
