Princess of Souls is a great YA fantasy story, full of forbidden magic, witty characters and a huge, detailed world. I was apprehensive about this book at first, as I didn't enjoy the previous book I read by this author, however I found this to be very engaging and well written.

There were some chapters that were more obvious and a little hokey, but overall I thought it was an interesting and believable fantasy world.

The "betrayal" trope was badly used in my opinion, and the story would have been much better without it. I thought the reaction Nox had was pathetically adolescent, and blown out of proportion compared to what actually happened, and then he seemed to just completely forgive and move on in an instant. Hm.

I look forward to reading To Kill a Kingdom after this, as it's in the same story world.

I would recommend this to fans of the Korr sisters, Holly Black and Sarah J Maas.
