My very first impression is that this book is going to be elaborate tale of magic and betrayal and plot twists. The main character has already, from the first look, been set up as a strong female character with great dreams for her future. The element of the competition to be a member of the Crown Prince’s council reminds me somewhat of The Selection but with a darker vibe to it - especially with the deadly wish that she’s forced to obey. It’ll be interesting to see how her character grows, especially with her relationship with other characters in the book, as she possibly attempts to free herself from the Lady’s control. I thought the cover is good also, it’s basically an optical illusion with the branches and lion showing the outline of the girl in the background - very clever!
