I loved this book! Although it is targeted at the YA market, I’m in my late twenties and was fully drawn into and immersed in this world.
I felt that one of the strongest points about this book is the setting. Ifueko has created a world with echoes of our own, but also fantastical elements such as sprites, fairies and magic.
The book has strong themes of feminism, and Tarisai is an inspirational heroine. Fantasy can be so white and male dominated, and here we have a strong, young black woman who takes control of her own story despite the pressures and forces around her, and, ultimately, changes the world.
I can’t wait for book two, and I hope that this book and Jordan Ifueko get the success that they deserve!
