Well, to be honest, I was very skeptical when I saw this book for the first time. I thought it was just some strange book I was going to dislike from the moment I started. It actually turned out I really liked it! And I think the cover is absolutely stunning! The cover is actually the thing that made me decide I was going to read this book despite not having a great feeling about it at first.

What I really liked about this book is that it is about West African mythology. I don't come across that a lot, but I think I actually like it a lot.

And the main character, well, I thought she was quite intriguing because she is not the kind of main character you see in a lot of books and it was nice to get to know her throughout the story. Her name is Tarisai.

Tarisai is cunning and clever, soft, and vulnerable. She just wants a family and to be loved. Her voice is spectacular; she has the kind of narration that makes every scene a delight to be in.

And also the side characters, they just kind of stole my heart!
I can't really say anything about the plot except that it has many layers, is complex, huge and it felt so real.

I think this is a must-have for all YA readers.
