Tarisai was raised by someone called "The lady" she was never shown affection, touched but she was looked after.
Desperate for something resembling family of her own she tries to join the council of Prince Dayo where all elected are as close as siblings.
But the lady has other plans for Tarisai, plans she is not willing to forego...
To fulfil a prophecy Tarisai's whole life has been geared towards killing the prince whose council she wants to join, will the lady's or Tarisai's will prove the stronger and who will win this cruel battle of wits and magic.
This was such a fresh and ethnic twist on the fantasy genre I just wasn't sure how well this would work as the only other novel similar of the ethnic YA fantasy sub genre I have read is the work of Tomi Adeyemi which I really enjoyed.
This was stunning, the story totally immersed me, the magic, the culture and traditions really melded well within the fantasy arena and now I am gutted as I was lucky enough to be given an advance copy for a review I now have to wait for the next instalment!
If this is her debut novel this author is already a master of the art and I think I will be collecting her future work.
