Raybearer reads like 3 or 4 distinct stories, coming together as one epic tale focused around Tarisai, a young girl more important that any of the people around her could possibly imagine.
Both the world building and writing style were phenomenal - detailed and immersive, sucking me in straight away. I struggled a little towards the end of the book with following exactly what was going on, and this let the book down a little. However, this was the only thing that did - everywhere else, I really loved the story and the characters.
The characters were layered and engaging, and I loved that there were two sides to each story so that the villain wasn't always clear. At points I wasn't sure who I was rooting for!
