Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko is a young adult, magical fantasy book. I was intrigued by the blurb and was pleased to receive a free copy. It was a long time until I picked up Raybearer to read, as there seemed to be always more interesting books that took my fancy. However, at an hospital appointment I took the book with me and began. I have not read a young adult book for many years and would not choose to read a fantasy book. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The story drew me in and I wanted to know more. The protagonist Tarisai is raised alone by servants and, visited irregularly by a woman called The Lady, who she is told is her mother. Being a fantasy book I did struggle at the beginning with the strange characters and what they believed. However, this is a book that subtlety draws you in and compels you to read more. Tarisai comes of age and is taken to the capital of Aritsar to hopefully be picked as one of the Crown Prince's Council of Eleven. However, The Lady has other ideas ......
