One of the best books i have recently read. It's rare to find a good fantasy for young adults, but this author did an amazing job at keeping me interested. Tarisai, the main character, longingly desires to be with a caring family. She is raised alone by 'the lady', a mysterious mother, to compete with other children in the capital of the global empire of Amritsar to become a part of the Crown Prince's council of 11. The book is somewhat based on west African myths, so is very different. A magical component of the story is the 'ray', which the children use to connect with the prince via their realms.
The story is complex and intricately written by Jordan Ifueko. I highly recommend this unique and wonderful read.
