This is my favourite book of 2020 so far! It is pure genius, filled with incredibly unique characters and a rich and colourful world. Tarisai is fierce and unyielding in the face of her supposed destiny, fighting to belong and make her own fate. As a character, she is someone to admire, as are Kirah and Sanjeet (her close friends). This may be YA fantasy, but it is for YA and adults alike. The world building is like none other – completely unique and cleverly constructed. Each detail appears carefully considered and adds richness to the world, enticing you in. I could go on for hours about how much I adored this book, but all I can say is please, please read it. Now I just desperately need the sequel! How is this a debut novel!? Absolutely brilliant.
