Ugh, I hate the fact that I didn’t enjoy this novel because the premise and the cover are brilliant. It wasn’t terrible, it was just sub-par.

I’ve not read any books by Sam Blake before - it wasn’t a very memorable first. I’ve seen heaps of praise for this online and I’m not sure whether I’ve read the same book…It just didn’t work for me at all.

Normally I love thrillers, but there was just too much going on here. The plot is so convoluted that it just becomes ridiculously unbelievable!

Some of the twists were slightly surprising, but the ‘big’ ones were rather predictable. Predicability isn’t necessarily a negative, however, sometimes it can be really satisfying to be proven correct! Unfortunately, there’s was little satisfying me here...

The biggest issue for me is stylistic. The writing was very clunky and the pacing was not consistent. I did like the fact that the chapters were relatively short, but the prose just let it down.

I did finish the book as I wanted to see how it all panned out, but I did find myself rushing to the end.

Disappointed doesn’t even cover how I feel about this novel. I really don’t have much more to say other than this. It’s not that it’s a bad book, but if 5/10 is average, then this definitely fell below.

Personally, I think there are better thrillers out there… Maybe one to miss this year?
