I was initially drawn to the lack of personalisation the character is given at the beginning, as though she is an inanimate object, a 'bulge on the right side of the double bed'. I also like the fast-paced nature of what happens, which makes it pleasurable to read, as you don't have to wait for ages for things to happen. There's a bit of a poetic style to Howard's writing, coming from the half-rhyme and rhyme, such as 'Midleton - goodbye towns... peace, a welcome release', as a literature student this is pleasing to the ear and brings a smile to my face despite the dark nature of the story. I also like the modern storyline, with the mention of Instagram, and especially a social media influencer! Overall, this book seems to be suspenseful and enjoyable to read.
