Play, Pause, Rewind, Fast Forward...

Whenever a book begins with a murder, I just know I’m going to be hooked. (Does that sound bad? Probably.) And that was very much the case with Rewind by Catherine Ryan Howard.

It begins with a brutal murder of an Irish Instagram influencer (say that three times fast!), and we’re quickly rewound to the time before her murder took place. From there we jump back and forth in time to figure out exactly why Natalie O’Connor was murdered, why she was in a remote holiday cabin, and why someone was filming her sleep. It’s definitely an engaging premise with just the right writing style that this story needed. However...

After finishing the book, I can definitely say that it was all a bit extreme, perhaps even unrealistically so. The characters were tolerable yet intriguing enough to read about, though some of their motivations were a bit odd.

As for the revelation... It all fell a bit flat for me. It was neither shock value nor satisfying conclusion. Instead, it was simply a meh moment.
