Rewind is a story about the disappearance of Irish Instagram star Natalie O’Connor. The book jumps back and forward through time covering the lead up to, and aftermath of the brutal murder which occurs during the opening two pages of the book. Facts are slowly revealed as we find out where Natalie goes, what triggers her to go there and what happens when she gets to her destination. The other main character in the book is journalist Audrey Coughlan, who works in the entertainment section at ThePaper.ie. Audrey is given an assignment to write a clickbait ‘article’ about Natalie’s disappearance, but she continues delving deeper even though her boss has told her not to……(Audrey wants to be a proper journalist, and sniffs a story that just might help kickstart her career.)
This is well written thriller, which may well leave you with the need to check any holiday accommodation that you stay in for hidden cameras…! Despite the brutal murder at the beginning this isn’t a gory thriller at all, it is much more of a psychological thriller, with some twists thrown in for good measure.
I hadn’t read any books by Catherine Ryan Howard before, but on the strength of this one I’ll be seeking out her previous two.
