Fantastic story !
An exciting story of two young women and their struggles to become doctors before the first world war .
Lucy comes from a wealthy family who live in Washington DC where her father is a diplomat for the British Government. Her mother treats her black servants as though they are still slaves and would never associate with women who actually had to work .
Rosie lives in abject poverty in Dundee , Scotland . Both share a burning desire to become a doctor and will sacrifice almost anything to achieve their dream . This is even more difficult than it seems as women were only just being considered for this most demanding of careers .
Both girls study in Scotland and both encounter the same young man . Only one can achieve love and happiness , but soon everything is overshadowed by the outbreak of the first world war. Will either girl ultimately find the future they desire and have worked so incredibly hard for ?
I loved this book , particularly the struggle the early pioneering women had to go through to become the first female doctors
