atmospheric and engaging
Rome and fire on the dramatic cover - who wouldn't think of Nero?
I love a book which starts with a map!
This is obviously the work of a master story-teller; a real delight as I see Robert Fabbri has written many other books set in the early days of the Roman Empire and I have read none of them yet.
The writing is assured and detailed with touches of cynicism. Horror and humour make a wicked concoction.
