If "Sex and the City" and "Crazy Rich Asians" had a baby, its name would be "Sarong Party Girls"! An absolute delight! Hilarious, truthful to the author's origins, written in Singlish, I felt myself transported to the thrill of living in Singapore. It tells the story of a group of girls in their late 20s trying to find a suitable husband, as social laws of the country dictate and how hard an Asia girl has to 'work' to get herself in the right marriage. Jazzy, the main character, is vibrant, and the whole plot unveils through her eyes. May not be easy to relate for Occidentals, but it's a remarkable piece of reading for anyone who's curious about other cultures, and an absolute must read. Not the least disappointed with its ending, which is just another bonus. By the end of the first chapter, I just felt like adding to 'lah' to the end of of all my sentences.
