Cassie falls out with the boyfriend on the other side of the world during their gap year travels. In her vulnerable state, she is easily recruited by a self sufficient community in a remote area of New Zealand who offer her the love and security which she so desperately needs. Her family in England try repeatedly to contact her but their gifts and messages reach her. Cassie becomes completely indoctrinated into Gethsemane's beliefs and culture and idolises their charismatic leader, Justin, who promises his faithful followers salvation as the Last Day approaches.
I really enjoyed his novel. It was well researched and well written. Although the ending was somewhat predictable given the situation, the book kept me riveted to the last page.
