Cassy is a law student in her final year and on her way to the airport for the trip of a lifetime to New Zealand, a break before her best friends wedding and educational studies.
Her and her boyfriend, Hamish were trying to hitch a lift to Taupo but were in a heated row and at her wits end Cassy decides to hitch a lift from a bunch of random strangers leaving Hamish and their relationship behind.
Cassy is persuaded to join the strangers for the night at their home and upon their arrival is greeted by Justin.
Justin is the "leader" of the island and as Cassy spends more hours and days on the island her need to leave is less insistent. She has been hooked, lined and sinkered into this "mystical" island illusion that is definitely almost too good to be true.
I thought this book was slow to start off with and wasn't sure where it would lead. As I read on and learnt more about each character I was left floored at the unexpected twists the story took, it was what nightmares are made of, yet I couldn't put the book down because I felt I had no time for sleep as I had to discover what happened next.
It was a really enjoyable read but emotional too as when I finally did go to bed I was left an emotional wreck as this story touched upon a few subjects many readers can relate to.
