Shadowblack continues right where Spellslinger left off with Kellen on the run as an outlaw with Reichis, a squirrel cat, and Ferius, a card playing Argosi.

I had not read Spellslinger before I received a copy of Shadowblack, though it had been on my wishlist for quite a while. I hastily purchased a copy and flew through it, and really enjoyed reading the two books back to back.
Having said that, (and while this book is a continuation), the story is quite self-contained with enough background included that I feel you wouldn't have to have read Spellslinger to throughly enjoy it.

As with the first book the language and storytelling is descriptive and the author weaves a world in the same way a Sha'Tep weaves spells. It is great to see Kellen grow and mature throughout the book and use his knowledge and compassion to help others and try to come to terms with the way his family, friends and society have treated him.

The plot is fast paced with some good twists and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
