If you read Spellslinger and loved it then Shadowblack will not disappoint!

The story continues with Kellen, Reichus and Ferius - three of the most amazing and quirky characters ever to grace the pages of a young adult novel - on their travels getting into, and out of, various predicaments with grace, humour and quite often some form or another of ancient magic.

I have to admit that I laughed, and cried, throughout Spellslinger, and I even fell in love with Reichus, the squirrel cat! He is such a laugh out loud character! And it was here in Spellslinger that Kellen's world was revealed and his vulnerabilities exposed so much so that it seemed inevitable that he would, in the end, leave with Ferius.

In Shadowblack the tone is more serious. Kellen may well be on the run from his parents and the Jan Tep but he knows he cannot run from the shadowblack. So when the travelling trio come across other 'shadowblack' sufferers and a possible cure Kellen is keen to help despite knowing his condition is worsening and is incurable. Now while the mood in Shadowbalck is often quite sombre there is always Reichus to counterbalance it with some humour and Ferius, though more serious in her role as full time mentor, also provides some memorable moments.

As with Spellslinger Shadowblack is easy to understand, pacey, juicy with action, a genrerific mish mash of fantasy, western, action, romance all wrapped up in a Don Quixotic adventure that I do not want to ever end!
To put is simply I can't wait for the third adventure and hope that is doesn't end there! Don't think I could ever say goodbye to the squirrel cat!
