I don't think anyone could read this book and not immediately think of the Madeleine McCann case. The circumstances are similar in so many ways - parents dining with friends whilst leaving the kids unattended and, despite half hourly checks, the two year old, Samantha, is snatched.
15 years later and a call is received from a girl who thinks she may be Samantha.
What follows is an examination of the intervening years, the effect on all the other members of the family and how Mum subsequently struggled to be accepted and not instantly dismissed as a careless mother (or perhaps murderer).
As the book reaches it's conclusion we learn the truth about what happened on that night and proves that you can't always trust those who are closest.
An enjoyable enough read.
