This wasn't necessarily a genre I would usually go for. I usually find anything war-time quite samey and bland. However, this was so beautiful and so lovely that it's opened my eyes to a genre awaiting me out there!

Connie is working at a timber corps in 1944. Seppe is an Italian prisoner of war based near by. They both meet, and despite their different backgrounds and reason for being in the forest, they get on instantly. This book follows the end of the war and afterwards, covering both Connie and Seppe, along with other prisoners of war, their families and the normal people in the forest.

Connie is a fantastic character, as is Seppe. You'll find yourself resonating with them both instantly and rooting for them along the way.

Incredible book, thoroughly enjoyed it
