A good cover, although the very large "Shiver Point" overshadows the title of this book, "A tap at the window" and the author Gabriel Dylan. This is a good story. The very first line has screams in the dark! The heroine, Riley, is a very clever girl, in her tree home she makes things, like boosted vision night binoculars. The whole book has great word pictures, like the abandoned "Darkraven Farm" - it just HAS to be spooky. The tension builds, storm, dark, goose-bumps, noises and smells, all pile up one on another so that you are glued to the page. A nice touch is that twisted twigs and branches frame the opening pages of each chapter. Riley has a great mix of characters as school friends, and has Bethany the Bully to contend with. The story flows at just the right speed - fast enough to keep you reading - slow enough to take it all in. Look out for the malevolent scarecrow - can the gang save the whole town? You won't want to put it down.
