I think this book is expertly written for the 8-12 year old range. The writing flows very well and although there is a lot going on the storyline is easy to follow. It reminds me of a modern day version of Enid Blyton’s secret seven books. A group of very relatable school children investigate funny goings on in their village. The children are a group that found an unlikely friendship in a previous book. They are an unusual combination of, a nerd, a brainy girl, the inventor, a new kid and the one who spends more time in detention than in lessons. This second book in a new series enforces the previous friendship group as they look into more unusual activity in the village. They investigate and work together to save the town from spooky goings on that originate from an old abandoned farm and its buildings. The back story they unearth leads them to a futuristic conclusion with a tense ending. This may be the second in a hopefully longer series but can be read as a stand alone.
