If you're looking for a spooky mystery, then the second in the Shiver Point series - A Tap at the Window by Gabriel Dylan - could be just up your street.

The book opens with a fabulous map - I do love a story with a map - of the town of Shiver Point. Riley, Sophia, Oli, Alex and Mo are the five local children that make up the Shiver Squad, who investigate spooky incidents in their area.

When the town encounters a series of break-ins and attacks, a mysterious, shabby-looking figure is always spotted leaving the scene of the crime.

The Squad track the creepy figure to Darkraven Farm and its abandoned outbuildings, not too far from Riley's grandfather's house. But all is not what it seems when the perpetrator turns out to be a very real scarecrow determined to seek revenge on those in the town connected with events in Shiver Point's past.

Although this is the second installment in the series, it can definitely be read as a standalone book.
It is 216 pages long, quick paced, and written in an easy style, based around Riley's life with her grandfather as a backstory to the plot.
This is not a horror story, more of a 'gentle' spooky read, great for a little hair-raising fun for readers aged 9 and above. I look forward to the next Shiver Point adventure!
