This was a delightful read that I think is perfectly pitched for 9 to 12 year old readers. Although it looks as though it might be a scary read it is the perfect blend of spooky, jump scare, scream and giggle! There is something for everyone in this book and I really enjoyed the setting, particularly the eerie and abandoned farm location. The Shiver Squad are a delightful mix of characters and I am sure that most young readers will find a character that they are able to identify with in some way here. I like that the whole gang were determined to work together to solve the mysterious goings on and that they were determined and refused to give up. I think that this book has just enough of a spooky atmosphere to be an enjoyable read but is not so terrifying that it will give the children nightmares. It is a book that they would be fine reading alone or that would be fun for families to read and enjoy together.
