The early stages of the novel, which is the second in the Shiver Point series, launches straight into the action as Riley - one of the Shiver Squad protagonists from the previous instalment, along with Alex (lead character last time out), Mo, Sophia and Oli - observes Bethany Blight (who is set up as the antagonist of the piece) and her cohort of friends escaping from an abandoned farm house to start this mystery and pique the interest of the inquisitive youngsters.

As was the case last time the place names are suitably spooky - the farm in question is called Darkraven - as is the skeletal imagery of the farm house, parts of which are likened to a skull, empty eye sockets and a toothless mouth, while the chapters and sentences are written in digestible chunks which makes it accessible for the intended target audience of young(er) readers.
