For a kid's book I thought this was wonderfully creepy. Alex spots a bright light falling into the wood and decides to investigate, especially as this teacher had told the class that meteors sell for thousands of pounds. When he arrives there are others already there, who were also attracted to the light.
The writer is able to capture the creepiness of the woods, the over-active imaginations of kids whilst at the same time making it believable.
