The cover is very good, it is 3D too! It gives you a good idea of what the story is about. Our hero Alex lives in a dull dilapidated small seaside town where normally nothing happens. Then, a brilliant light crashed into the woods nearby. Alex, 12 year old, is determined to investigate, and gradually makes friends with school contemporaries to investigate. It some meteor fragments could be found and sold, it could change the fortunes of his family and even the whole town. The book covers the difficulties of school life which will be well known to readers. The black slimy creatures in Howlmore forest are taking over the adults in the town . There are more and more odd goings on, like all the town's cat food disappears, all tech stuff goes down, bad smells cloud the town. Can the gang save the whole town from the "things" that arrived with the meteor? The story builds inexorably to a frightening crescendo. It is a good story, but some parts are a little incredible for 12 year olds to actually do, like lift manhole covers from below, and they really need wellies for wandering about in sewers! The story is a great slimy, black, terror tale nevertheless.
