What a great and creepy story! Alex hates living in Shiver Point ever since he and his mum had to move there for her job. His left his old friends behind and nothing exciting ever happens in the town. When he spots what looks like a meteorite falling to the ground somewhere in the woods at night he’s desperate to find is as selling it could make enough money for him and his mum to go home. But when he heads into the woods he soon hears something sinister, something that follows him.

This is such a great book from the start with Alex soon coming across four other kids from his school when he arrives at the site of the crashed meteorite. Something creepy soon happens, terrifying all the kids as they run away from something chasing them in the woods, and as the story continues we learn more about each of the characters in turn as the chapters switch viewpoint often. I liked getting to know the different characters, each of them is different but likeable. I especially liked Alex, Mo and Riley’s characters and their different quirks.

As the story continues it becomes clear to the kids that something sinister is happening in their town. People are acting strange and there are strange new slugs appearing around the town too. I won’t give away any more but it’s such a brilliant and creepy story which builds up to a big reveal and an ending I wasn’t expecting. There is a map at the start of the book showing you all the important parts of town including where everyone lives, and each chapter has a header image of creepy trees adding to the eerie feeling of this tale.

The ending is satisfying and so good. In fact there’s some brilliant twists and revelations near the end and I never thought the story and something in particular would be as creepy and scary as it was. The ending is good though and this story isn’t just a good one for the creeps, but it’s also a great story about the five kids coming together too. I like the unlikely friendship that comes about between these five characters, and the story has a lot of good humour in it too. The final pages are great and hint at a sequel and indeed I know there already is one which comes out next year titled: Shiver Point – A Tap at the Window which I’m looking forward to reading.

Overall a great and creepy read for spooky season and whenever you want to get creeped out! 😀
