Thank you to the author and to Readers First for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. “It came from the woods” is a new children’s book and the first one in a series. It’s a horror novel so I was quite interested to see how it turned out and I was quite engaged by the front cover which I think will definitely appeal to its target audience. I did find it a little bit of a slower start than I would have liked but then it soon became quite entertaining and a page turner. It reminded me very much of a Goosebumps novel and I think it will fit in well with this genre of books although I don’t think some of the references made will be understood by children today and I don’t think they should be encouraged to watch the films mentioned. I would have liked to have a bit more background to the characters, but as it is a children’s novel and the first one in a set I imagine more details will emerge in later books. I enjoyed it and its nice and short, I would probably say suitable for ages 10 and above and I would happily read further books in the series.
