This a book which would be perfect for those who are 10 to 13. The story tells of a group of 'misfits' who come together as strange things begin to happen around their sleepy town. The action kicks in early and keeps moving along at a pace, leaving no room for the story to get dull and bogged down in extra details. As an adult reading I enjoyed the nods to horror films and books from times gone past (a cat called Cujo). Reference to Netflix, Minecraft and Call of Duty all help give it a modern feel (although I wonder if these passing comments will make the book feel dated quicker than necessary). I was able to read it in a day and the short chapters help the story move along quickly. Whilst the cover and illustrations at each new chapter are great I do wonder if they will put off some of the older readers from picking this up, which would be a shame as beyond them is a great story and the start of what promises to be a fun series.
