When Alex and his mum are sort of forced to move to Shiver Point, it does not take him long to realise that he has moved to a very boring place. He misses the big town where he used to live and he misses his old friends. He has started a new school where the other pupils are not friendly or welcoming, so Alex spends a lot of time by himself. His mother works long shifts at the local hospital which means that Alex is left alone at home too. He knows that his mother is having money problems.
One evening Alex notices a strange light in the sky and he sees something land in the forest near his town. The next day at school they are learning about meteorites and somebody asked if they were valuable. The teacher said that parts of meteorites could be sold at auction for a lot of money.
Alex goes into the forest to see if it was a meteorite that had landed. He hoped to be able to bring some of it home so that he could sell it to make his mother some extra money. What he does find will change his world forever.
