I enjoyed the friendship dynamic the most and even though the plot was very interesting, I was hoping for it to be a bit more on the scary side which it sadly wasn't. I think I misjudged the age range because although I am a fan of middle-grade fiction, this felt a little too juvenile for my taste.
I probably would have preferred it if the story wasn't about extraterrestrial beings and instead about a ghost or something similar since I don't personally find aliens that scary, especially in middle-grade books. The second book seems more along the lines of something I would enjoy a bit more, so I might give that one a try! Overall, I really appreciate the story for what it was, and particularly the Shiver Squad.
It is a solid read as a whole and perfect for those who liked horror movies as a child (as there's a character in the book with the same hobby) and also those looking for a quicky spooky yet wholesome read.
