A Stand Out Crime Novel
5 Words: crime, abuse, children, murder, betrayal.
After first reading this, I went out and bought the audiobook.
A lot of reviews of the audiobook slam the narrator for her voice and how fast she performed, but I loved her. I thought she was a brilliant narrator, and I loved how each character had a distinct voice. The creepy voice for the culprit was amazing, gave me chills. I didn't find it too fast and I listen to audiobooks with the speed at 2x.
Character wise, I loved Kim. She was so dry and bitter and a bit of a cliché, but it really worked in the context of the story. I'm definitely going to read/listen on as I'd love to see her deal with something a little less close to home, see if that maybe changes her characterisation.
I loved the story line and how it played out. Some bits were very predictable, but once you've read enough crime thrillers there isn't much that can surprise you.
