This was an absolutely amazing Read!!
The Chapters are short, which makes it easy reading and easy to stop and start with (perfect for me with a toddler in the house!) but also meant that there were many cliff hangers, many interesting twists. Each Chapter although short packs a whallop, the different personalities and situations done brilliantly, and creating an edge of the seat experience that had me flying through the book!
Three evenings and the book is finished, and all I can think is I can’t wait for more from Angela Marsons and DI Kim Stone!
The Main Character is brilliantly done, she takes no crap. Isn’t particularly fussed about the rules, her priority is in justice for the lives lost. She’s also sarcastic and an ass but so funny! Not in a jokey way but more an “omg did she just do that?” Kind of way. In short, she has a very real feeling personality.
I loved the inclusion of a non romantic male partner, and i enjoyed the odd relationships between the MC and her team. The MC isn’t a great socialite, and we find out why as we go, but she clearly cares about her team and knows them well.
The storyline was very well thought out, with more information being given as we go, and i loved the way that as we find out more of whats happening, we see the situation from the killers perspective. A revelation is followed by a chapter from the murderers viewpoint as the murder happened.
At times this was very cringeworthy, but in a good way if that is at all understandable. The cringe because of how well written the terrible situations are. This is a very different viewpoint, and i love how well done the odd mind of the murderer is. It’s kept me awake !! They aren’t massively gorey, but there is enough detail done in such a way as to make you imagine what isn’t said. I personally found this much more disturbing than graphic details!
And then the ending. Goodness me! Partly expected, mostly not!! Some very good twists in there that left me literally saying “what the hell?!” I love how it all came together so well, and loved even more how logical, and disturbingly clever the ending was. By far the most well thought out twist I have yet come across!
I have enjoyed every page of this, and by half way through I had ordered the next book! It’s difficult to imagine this author improving, but from what I have been told this is exactly what Angela Marsons does!!
Angela Marsons has just become my Favourite Crime/Thriller Author, and i can’t wait to see what else she will come up with!
