There is a lot of effort put into the character development in the opening chapters of this book. Time and care is taken to really get to know the protagonist.

I thought it was an easy book to read in the sense that it just flowed really well and I read much more than I intended to in one sitting.

It isn't my usual "go to" genre and in a way the main character was almost too real for my usual escapism needs, but I found myself reading on, as so much time was taken to get to know them that I felt like I really wanted to know what happened to them.

From the first impression read, the characters felt real and relatable to and I am intrigued as to how the book will take a turn to become the darker story described in the blurb.
