As soon as I pick up a book by C.L. Taylor, I know I need to clear myself some time because I'm not going to be able to put it down. This book was no exception to the rule!
Straight away I felt empathy with the main character...a car crash that was not her fault, but that had killed some of her colleagues and seriously harmed others was plaguing her every thought. Her relationship was in tatters anyway and to escape it all, she sought escape and a fresh start on a remote Scottish isle, starting a completely different career in a hotel.
Everything about the place screamed 'eerie' and 'go back'. I thought it would be a bit predictable, but the unusual happenings kept me on my toes and I couldn't put it down! I couldn't have guessed the ending at all either, which kept me hooked and intrigued the whole way through. Already following this author, waiting for her next book!
