When you look at the cover, read the synopsis and check out the recommendations that adorn the back page, you know exactly what you’re getting. And, while that would tend to put me off, there was something about this book that drew me in.

The plot is nothing new. Something disturbing happens, lives are thrown into chaos, all looks hopeless, and then ultimately the ‘heroes’ start to unearth clues that carry the plot forward.

These ingredients exist in every crime or thriller book, but they only truly work if the writing is good and the plotting is tight. And, on this occasion, the book earns a big thumbs up.

Everything moves at a pace that keeps to reader engrossed but fully able to keep up. There’s nothing boring and nothing dull. It’s something of a triumph, truth be told!
