I'll be honest, I didn't realise that this was based on a true story as I read the first impression.
However, I will say that my initial thoughts as I read were that the MC is severely underdeveloped with little to no character or clear motivations. I also couldn't understand any ounce of her reasoning to stay with Mark - surely at the start of a book the reader needs to understand why the MC is in this situation, what was the initial allure of the man?

However, given that this is based on a true story, considering these aren't crafted characters then those observations may be a little harsh. I also now realise that the first impression was chapter 5 so perhaps the prior 4 chapters would offer a little more insight to understand the motivations of the MC.

Regardless, I found the writing style monotous. It's a recount, it doesn't draw me into the story (again understandable now I realise the genre but no less unappealing to me).

Overall, not a fan and I've no desire to read any more of this.
