Reading the first look has me intrigued about how an intelligent, educated and independent woman could be taken in by "Mark" who seems a thoroughly obnoxious and crass individual. However, as it is written retrospectively and the author has the advantage of hindsight it is likely that she is portraying him through the hardened eyes of his victim rather than the rose-tinted ones of the lover she once was. I can't wait to read further to see what unfolds and how she becomes aware of his deceit and manipulation.
